When Botticelli’s Venus in all her feminine majesty emerged from the sea (1486) it was the first time a painting of a naked woman had been seen in Italy since the fall of classical empire.
It is impossible to overstate the paintings significance & it’s place in Italian Renaissance. But what did it really mean for this ancient goddess of love and beauty to re-appear in the collective imagination of the day?
Join us as we explore this iconic work of art, the mythology within which it finds its deep roots & our continued fascination with it.
